(The Mississippi Open is traditionally held every Memorial Day weekend)

Sam Parker is sending the full results and scoresheet. However, I have some brief results of this one day checker event from an email from Charles Walker. The adults played 3-Move and the youth played GAYP.  Alex Holmes won the A Class Division, the overall top division. Charles said, "Alex has really improved since Barbados." His dad, Michael come in second and Charles was third and the Mississippi State Champion.  Pat Parker came in fourth, Sam Parker came in fifth and ran the tournament.  Kevin Seaton won the Minors Division and Kim Kalinsky won the Ladies Division.  Sam has all the results and I will post the details when I get it from Sam who has already emailed me saying he is currently busy with his year end teaching duties, but will respond shortly.

1 Alex Holmes, Sellersburg, IN 10066 2054   3 3  Won The 2014 Mississippi State Youth (16-18 yrs)
2 Joshua Parker, Pass Christian, MS 10464 1503   1 1  2014 Mississippi State Youth Champion (eight year in a row)
  Total Prize Fund:

In the 16-18 age group, we had only 2 participants but were both strong players. Alex Holmes from Sellersburg, Indiana got 1st place against my son, Joshua Parker from Pass Christian, Mississippi. Joshua got a draw against Alex in game 2 and so the scores were Alex=3 and Joshua=1. This result makes Alex the National GAYP Youth Champion for the 16-18 age group and Joshua remains the Mississippi State Youth Champion for Boys for the 8th year in a row.

In the 13-15 age group we had 4 players.  1st place goes to my daughter, Laura Parker with 10 points, 2nd place goes to Zach Heitzmann with 8 points, 3rd place goes to Cole Taylor with 5 points, and 4th place goes to Dakota Brown with 1 point. This makes Laura the National Champion for ages 13-15 and the Girls National GAYP Champion as well as the Mississippi State Champion for Girls and ages 13-15.

In the age 10-12 age group we had 8 participants this year. 1st place goes to Billy Zhang with a perfect score of 28 points, 2nd place was a tie between Jasmyn Rains and Kolynn Braun both with 20 points, 3rd place went to Adam Heitzmann with 16 points, 4th place went to Jacob Weir with 14 points, 5th place went to Lilly Collins with 10 points, 6th place went to Bekah Smith with 3 points, and 7th place went to Gabe Parker with 1 point. This means that Billy Zhang is the Mississippi State Champion for the 10-12 year olds as well as the National GAYP Champion for this age group. Also special congratulations because Billy was the only person who got a perfect score with 7 win, 0 draws, and 0 losses.

In the youngest age group of 7-9 year olds we had 7 participants this year. 1st place was a 3 way tie between Dan Hammett, Mary Kolinsky, and Austin McDonald all who had 16 points. 2nd place was a 2 way tie between Priscilla Parker and Kaylee Jones both with 12 Points, 3rd place went to Jordan Weir with 8 points and 4th place went to Kaleb Jones with 6 points. So the State and National GAYP youth champions for the 7-9 year old group is a 3 way tie between Dan Hammett, Mary kolinsky, and Austin McDonald. So it was a great day.

We started at 9:30 and finished at 5:30 on Saturday, May24 at the ICHF in Petal. Charles and Delores provided great food and prizes for everyone who was there. We had 36 who started out and 32 who actually played out the entire tournament. We had over 50 people there in Attendance and also had TV coverage. Next year we hope to have over 50 participants. Thank you JR for all that you do.  I can call you later with the actual pairing/results for our Major division just for ratings purposes.

We started out with 6 in our Major/Master Men's group but Bill Parker has to leave due to Health issues. So 5 of us actually finished in that Group which was our State Tournament Group for the Mississippi State Champion. Charles Walker who finished in 3rd place overall was the HIGHEST  Mississippi Resident and so is once again the State Champion of Mississippi. Alex Holmes earned First Place with 17 points and his Dad Michael Holmes came in 2nd place with 14 points, Charles had 13 points, Patrick Parker had a total of 5 points, I got 1 point by getting a draw against Alex and Bill Parker had 2 points when He had to leave. When Bill left He had already played against Alex, Michael and Charles and so it would not have changed the top 3 spots even if He had stayed and played Patrick and me. I can call you with more info later for rating purposes.
